Default Does Wall Street and Other White Collar Careers Conduct a Federal Background Check

i am currently 16 years old and I am almost 100% sure that Id like to pursue a career on Wall Street or in banking

Earlier this year(I was still 16 then) I got into a huge fight with my parents and I got arrested and I was charged with Criminal Mischief

the Judge gave me an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal(so I can confidently say no to any questions pertaining to Convictions, as i didnt get convicted, it didnt even go to trial), itll be dismissed and sealed if i stay out of trouble for 6 months. which I have

I am equally sure that once I leave my parents, I will not get into any more trouble with the law because I know what kind of person I am

So do Wall street jobs question if you've ever been ARRESTED before? According to NY criminal law, an arrest is either -pending or -led to a conviction, neither of which applies to me

however, I am still unsure of how to answer that.

A Lawyer that gave me free legal advice told me that the FBI keeps arrest records forever, so really big businesses that cant afford to have anything go wrong just might conduct a background check against the FBI records

If they see that Ive been arrested once before at age 16 because of something like Criminal Mischief, even if it was dismissed, could the mere presence of an arrest record in the FBI system disqualify or work against me in my pursuit of a job on Wall Street?

    thanks a lot in advance

P.S. My sincere apologies for any grammar mistakes that you may come across whilst reading this, I was in a big hurry

I know for a fact that I didnt use apostrophes so please excuse me

Some may, some may not. There is no hard and fast rule here, it is entirely at the discretion of the individual companies.

That said, if you do end up being asked this question, answer honestly. "I was 16, and like most 16 year-olds, I was acting like a dumbass. I've never been in trouble since then."

It's really quite rare for your Juvi record to be held against you in the working world if all you've got is a charge that resulted from lipping off at your parents.

I certainly hope the economy is in better shape by the time you get to that point.

i was asking if the mere presence of an arrest record can deter potential employers

after all, an impeccable record is many times more preferable

also, I dont know If I was tried as a juvi though
sure, Im 16 but I didnt go to youth court or family court

I went straight to county Criminal court

also, the way i see it is that if I answer yes to an arrest question, they'll just throw my app in the garbage can

why bother wasting time on checking and rechecking someone who said yes's background when you can just move on to the next application, where the applicant responded with a definite no?

Sugar, you're acting like a teenager. Which, you are, but still.

Why ask us for answers if you're just going to throw a toddler temper tantrum?

Consider that the people who've answered you have been in the working world for a good long time. You got realistic, accurate answers.

If you're not going to pay us any mind and have yourself a hissy, you might do us a solid, stop wasting our time, and go throw your fit somewhere else.

ok im sorry for throwing a fit

I understand that you have solid experience in the working world but

I cant help but shake the feeling that, unless you yourself works on wall street, that an industry like wall street takes itself as serious as a government job

i mean, wall street cant really afford to fail again
so wall street firms are less willing to hire someone with a shaky(albeit petty) clash with the law

You're operating on the mistaken assumption that all firms will always respond exactly the same way in every situation.

    That is not the case.

We cannot give you a definite answer as to exactly what some unnamed firm will do some years in the future. There simply is not one single answer that is going to always apply no matter what.

Don't get into any more trouble, and if the question comes up, BE HONEST.

If you lie, and you're later found out, that's grounds for instant termination. As in, Security will walk you out the door, and send you your personal effects later.

yea i'll be honest, but what if the honest answer is no?

after all, Ive been instructed by one such lawyer who offered free consultation that the correct answer is no

the reason why I am still having doubts is because I was told by another lawyer during a free consultation session that the answer to put is yes

I dont know who to believe, but I have an inner bias to the lawyer saying that it is correct to say no
