    Default Accidents in Self-Driving Cars

My question involves a traffic accident in the State of: Confusion

It is predicted that in the future cars will drive themselves.

If there is a traffic accident that is caused by an automated car, then who is liable for the damages? Driver? Owner? Manufacturer?

I'm thinking you. We'll find a way to make it all your fault.

(Depending on the accident, potentially "all of the above" - and possibly also your mechanic, if an improperly performed repair is involved.)

As long as the car has a computer there will be no mistakes. And CD's don't skip.

The first generation will require driver oversight. You can read the paper but you can't sleep. So it'll still be the driver.

I seriously doubt there will ever be automated cars, or "transport vehicles" for that very reason. As long as autos are designed or co-designed, by humans, there will be faults in the sytem, thus crashes.

If there were an automated transport system, it will likely come in the form of mass transit systems designed similar to exsisting sytems, yet able to go longer distances and interconnect more frequently than current systems. There will be no intersections as it will be over and under cross sections.

I used to ponder the pontential usage of hover crafts, but they fall short of speed demands and of course, you'd not only have crashes like we have today, horizonal, but you'd also have vertical crashes.

Back on topic, vehicles that will be produced to go wherever on demand, I see no future for, but vehicles that require minimal operator input could very well produce fewer crashes, yet with the cost of electronic components for cars today, imagine the cost of repairs to all the sensors and circuits in the future. It could be cost prohibitive.

"Joint and several" liability is at times a question of law, yes.
