Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes on a Health Savings Account

I was posting what they told me and it's ok to mention what they said. I would like to follow the IRS rules.

I was trying to determine how spending time and frustration "pushing" the unwilling...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes on a Health Savings Account

    OK.

FWIW, called H&R Block and they said that this year it is voluntary for small companies to report that on W2 form - but next year it will be legally required even for small companies. They...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes on a Health Savings Account

Much appreciate you posting. Employer did not count HSA contributions in Box 1 + nothing would ever be distributed to anything other than qualified healthcare costs.

    Because there was nothing on...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes on a Health Savings Account

I used the words "Tax Professional" to describe a conversation with whoever answered a Jackson Hewitt Tax Service phone number, the conversation being me expressing concern that there are no HSA...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes for a Health Savings Account 2

All right. This means I have a situation, since I've spoken to the person in charge of the company's W2 forms.

Fact is that they DID make contributions into the HSA account.
    I asked twice and was...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes for a Health Savings Account 2

    Thank you.
Employer said "It is not a 'Cafeteria Plan' so we don't have to include it on W-2 Forms."
But the Bank said they will be sending out 1098 and 1099 forms later in the month, and have no...

Federal Taxes: Re: Taxes for a Health Savings Account 2

    Thank you for posting.
Box 12 on the W2 has the word 'Code' in it and nothing else.
I was going off of actual deposits employer made into the HSA account.
Interestingly, nothing like that is on...

Federal Taxes: Taxes on a Health Savings Account

    Employer contributed $2050
    I contributed $1300
    ----------------------
Everything, the entire amount was spent on qualified medical expenses.

    Had I contributed $0 - then Form 8889 (HSAs)...

Federal Taxes: Re: Hsa Health Savings Account

Thanks a bunch. Filling out Form 8889 for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), would have resulted in placing $100 on Form 1040, line 25, after completing separate Form 8889. This would have yiedled a...

Federal Taxes: Re: Hsa Health Savings Account

Thanks for that. I thought that nothing would generally get transferred as you said.

What about the $100 of personal funds used to open the account, is that something that gets entered on a 1040...

Company puts in $1000 per year into HSA account.
Account was opened with a $100 personal deposit.

There was no info on the W2 about the HSA $ the company put in, it was separate from salary....
