Parental Rights in North Carolina
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: NC
My daughter lived with me for 16 years. The situation got physically violent when she decided to break my nose. My husband (stepfather) took her to live with her Father. We have a younger child in the house and it was affecting her. It was the best situation for all parties involved. She has been living with her father coming home for visits for 9 months. Everything seemed fine until I found out that her father caught her and her boyfriend having sex and he almost killed him. He is 17. Anyway, they got into an argument and she left with the boyfriend to stay at his house with his parents. So she hasn't gone to school all week and I am at a loss at to what rights I have as a parent. I don't want her living back at home too violent, and yes I should have called the police and had her arrested but hinesight is 20/20 as they say. Thought we could work it out. Her problem is she doesn't like rules and will not live by them. I am at a loss to what to do here. Can she live outside of our homes? Am I responsible for her? I know I am but to what extent. Also, she is burning bridges badly with all people over this boyfriend. Can I force her to stay in school? Help! Thanks.
