Do you get a permanant record for shoplifting
So I made a stupid mistake and shoplifted. Anyway, I was caught.

I'm 16 and I know it was wrong, however I'd like to know if this is going to be on my permanant records (where colleges + jobs can view it). I stole a pack of batteries from a Sentry's and the police were called. They confiscated my drivers license and the police decided not to ticket me or give me a citation because it was only a $4 item. They then gave me my license back. However, I'm afraid that this is never going to leave my name.

The security official I asked who works at Sentry's said something about if I had to go to court (I don't) and the judge decided to throw away the ticket, if I was given one, then I wouldn't have my record tarnished.

Could someone shed some light on this?

PS. If it makes any difference, I live in WI.

Re: Shoplifted - permanant record affected?
If you were not arrested, charged or ticketed and don't have to go to court, you shouldn't have any criminal record whatsoever from the incident. The police can be expected to maintain an incident report in their files, as can the store.
