My friend was charged with felony assault with intent and club affiliation this is his third strike person assaulted was an officer in training. Is he really looking at life in prison?

My friend was charged with felony assault with intent and club affiliation this is his third strike person assaulted was an officer in training. Is he really looking at life in prison?
If virginia has a 3 strike law then yes b.c it's his 3 felony and the chance of plea to remove the strike can be hard b.c the person was a cop in training. Maybe he can plead it down to something,if he defintely did the crime he looking at a good amt of time in prision.
