Re: Issues with Roommates
are you all on one lease or do each of you have individual leases?
if you can prove that somebody is taking your food, present them with a demand letter for the value of the products. If you wanted to get real picky, you could sue them but I suspect a judge would not be too happy listening to somebody that is suing for a bottle of Coke and a dill pickle.
Re: Issues with Roommates
We're all on separate leases. There are 5 rooms for rent here two of which are joined as a double. Me and my fiancée take up the double while the other two take up 2 of the 3 remaining rooms. The blind one's guests stay in the room that is supposed to stay unoccupied.
Re: Issues with Roommates
does your lease state anything about how many cohabitants there can be?
Who pays utilities? and if they are paid by the tenants, how are the calculated for each tenant?
basically, unless your lease states there will only be X number of cohabitants, you have no claim to demand the person stay or not.
if utilities are paid by the LL and not additional to each of the tenants, again, you really have no argument against the additional party. If the tenants share the costs of the utilities, then you need to go back to determine what your lease states about now many inhabitants are allowed.
Re: Issues with Roommates
The utilities are included in our rent. Fixed rate. And the maximum number of residents is 5 (one in each room)
Re: Issues with Roommates
doesn't sound like you have any action available to you. Sorry, sometimes we just have to learn to make the best of what we have.
Re: Issues with Roommates
Thanks for the input. I'm just going to see what I can do with management to get the blind one and her scribe to be transferred (apparently this is her 7th or 8th room in this complex) I'll post back if anything else comes up :) More input is also welcome!
