On B1 Visa, and Want to Marry American Boyfriend
Hi, I'm a canadian citizen and I'm on a B1 visa. I want to get married to my American boyfriend next year. I am very nervous at the border because I got returned once before for not having canadian ties.
Here are my questions:
1)Is it legal for me to be on a B1 visa and get married in America?
2)Can we get married in america and can I live with him right away after marriage even though I will be on a B1 visa?
Re: On B1 Visa, and Want to Marry American Boyfriend
You can marry as a tourist.
You mean, can you stay with your new husband during the duration of your stay as a tourist, before you go home? Of course.
If you are asking about petitioning to adjust your status that promptly after entering as a tourist, with a prior history of being turned back as having apparent immigrant intent, you're playing with fire. I suggest seeking a fiance visa.
Re: On B1 Visa, and Want to Marry American Boyfriend
Thanks for answering my question.
Am I correct to say that, on my B1 visa-- I can get married to my boyfriend... and stay in the U.S. even after my B1 visa expires? As I would be applying for my greencard/citizenship?
After marriage can I live with my boyfriend while applying for the paperwork to get green card even after b1 visa expires? can I be on an active B1 visa and still get citizenship/greencard?
Please help, I'm very confused!
THANKS in ADVANCE!
I am on a B1 visa now... and I will be extending it for July 1st. We are to get married in the summer...
