Grand Theft Auto, Witness or Involved
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Alberta
I know two people, Bob and Rob (names protected) who were drunk and stole a vehicle.
Heres what happened, the next day Bob and Rob called me asking for my help on getting their vehicle unstuck from the mud. I said I would glady help them. When I showed up to their house I asked them where the vehicle was and they told me it wasn't far behind their house in the bush, then they had told me that the night prior they had been "car hoping" and they had found this one vehicle unlocked with the key in the ignition so they had stole the vehicle. I thought that is was horrible but they then needed my help to get it unstuck so they could hide it furthermore. When I arrived at the vehicle the doors had been ripped off and it was ptty stuck, so I got inside and tried to move it but it was not going anywhere(my fingerprints were inside), long story short I got it unstuck and then we moved it to another location. We vowed to never speek of this again. A month later the police had located the vehicle and brought it to the impound lot. We knew our finger prints were inside the vehicle and I wasn't about to have a criminal record for their dumbasses so later that night Bob and Rob entered the lot, sprayed cleaner everywhere in the vehicle and wiped everything down. Since that we haven't heard anything.
My question is what am I involved with here and what could my charges if any be?
Also I am currently 17 and was 16 when it happened.
Re: Grand Theft Auto, Witness or Involved
Have you thought about getting better friends????
C'mon, you're smart enough to know better, even at 16. Once you knew the vehicle was stolen, getting in to 'help' was wrong all the way around. How would you feel if it would have been YOUR vehicle? I'm thinking that 'vowing never to speak of it again' isn't going to fly if you're brought into this. I would think that at the very least, down here in the states, that would be an accessory after the fact.......
Re: Grand Theft Auto, Witness or Involved
Yeah I understand, which brings me to my next question:
Should I report this?
Well I pretty much know how its gonna go down now... Accessory to theft over 5000, what are the charges for this? Anyone know?

No, accessory after the fact to Grand Theft Auto. By helping the thieves hide the evidence after you knew it was stolen, you are just as guilty of the crime as they are.
Oh, and the trespassing charge. Your friends really broke into a police impound lot? Really?
This is big boy jail. You need to talk to a lawyer about how best to turn your buddies over to the police to try to avoid prison.
