Accidentally Stealing From My Company
Hi, I am faced with quite a dilemma.
I had 2 pieces of computer equipment. 1 personal and 1 from my company. They are the same model and make but obviously different serial number. I brought the company one home to practice on.
I sold my personal computer equipment on the internet but shipped
the company one. They look exactly the same. I asked UPS 3 times to return the package while it was in transit but they failed and sent to receiver. The receiver does not want to send the package back.
Should I tell the receiver that the package belongs to my company's ?
Should I tell my company what I did?
Accidental stealing from my company
What happens if the employer finds out before I tell them my story?
Also, what happens if I Leave the company and they find out after the fact?
Just brainstorming.
Any other options?

They may assume that you stole the equipment and possibly fire you or seek to have you prosecuted.

They wouldn't be able to fire you after you quit, but they could give you a bad reference and, if they believe you stole the equipment, could still file charges.

Are there any other options here in your opinion to protect myself?
I have tried emailing the buyer but they do not want a refund nor send the unit back for an exchange.
I did not tell them the equipment belonged to my employer. I was afraid they would report me or check the warranty and the vendor would inform my company that an external person was seeking a warranty on an item that belonged and was warranted by my company.
Should I tell the buyer?
Thanks for all your help....
