Do You Have to Carry I.D.
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
Ok, I was with my friend last night and he decided to shoplift at K-Mart. (This has nothing to do with shoplifting law,) well he got caught, and we were both escorted to the back by the LP. He had assumed both of us had attempted, while in reality only he did. So police were called in due to my friend not having any form of ID at the age of 19. Well once the police arrived, they searched me, and found nothing, so I was pretty much free to go. But I couldn't help but notice something that was said. The officer said to my friend, "Why don't you have ID? Its law to have one." Now this has brought up my question, is it really the law to own some form of state ID? Only reason I have mine is due to the need to drive.
Re: Do You Have to Carry I.D.
I live in Ohio also. Unless he is parole or probation or such and is required to carry one to comply, NO, there is no law that mandates a citizen carry an ID, except as you say, driving, etc.
