How Long Should You Wait to File After Marriage
me and my boyfriend are planning on getting married soon and we want to make sure we do everything right. He is in this country on a B-1/B-2 visa that expired about a year ago. What we want to know is how long after marriage should we wait to file? He has been told to wait atleast a month before filling but i dont see or understand how that would matter. Also i have read that we can apply for an EAD so he can work but i want to know if this is a document i can submit prior to filling or is it all done at the same time? I have also read that it can take a long time for someone to get there greencard,is there a standard time this normally takes if the person has a no underlining issues.
Re: How Long Should You Wait to File After Marriage
You can do it right after you're married, if you like, and you you would file for the EAD along with everything else.
It is a good idea to consult with an immigration attorney, however, just because it's very easy to make a mistake in all of the piles of paperwork.
