Want to Overstay 20 More Days to Complete Degree
My reinstatement application was denied on 11th March, which my DSO told me about and I am yet to get that in the mail.

I have option of reentry through mexico, but I do not want to take that risk, since I plan to leave on May7th after giving my last exam.

My DSO has said that school does not have authority to remove me, nor would they be telling the INS guys about me as it is not their job. And that I would be able to graduate smoothly even if i stay here out of status. Is this true ?

I am in a dilemma, because:
    1) Reentry from mexico would solve all problems but if denied, my whole degree is at stake !
    2) If I choose to overstay, my illegal stay would start from 15thMarch. I would have a deadline up to 15April to leave, but I plan to leave by 7thMay.

Do I run the risk of being visited by INS guys and be deported ?
My only concern is my degree which I want to complete & go home for good !
Would INS guys come looking for me ? Does that happen a lot ?
If he does come what then ?

It is true. Which is not to say that no one will report you, but it's pretty unlikely that anyone would bother. We have people wandering around this forum who've overstayed 20 YEARS.

Do keep in mind that your overstay will trigger a three year ban, so once you graduate and leave, you will not be eligible to return for three years. Should you overstay more than 180 days, you'll trigger a 10 year ban.

But my overstay would be much less than 180 days(40 i guess), so I would not be facing 3 year ban, am I right ?

Second thing, even if no one reports me to INS, would they come looking for me seeing I have not left ? How likely is that ?

Third, how would this overstay of around 40-50 days affect me for future visas ? Am I almost unallowable for future for practical pusposes or explaining things does help in those cases ?
