I Am 17 and Have Parental Consent to Get Empancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: washington.

I'm 17 years old, and have lived on my own since I was 13. I recently moved in with my grandmother, not that it's a bad thing, it's just not what I prefer. I go to an alternative school and it's only 2 days a week. I have a job, and I believe with a roomate I can support myself. I also have a car, I won't have my licence for another two months, but after that I was planning on moving out. I also have parental permission. I have tried researching on the laws and the precedure I would go through to start the order, but I haven't found any useful imformation. I have no clue as to what the laws are for it, or the steps that need to be followed. I basically would just like to know how to get started with this, and if I even have a chance with a judge allowing this.

    Thank you, any imformation helps.

Emancipation requires that you support yourself without help (in other words, without a room-mate).

    THIS might help.

So if I can't afford rent without a roomate then they won't allow the emancipation?

    Correct (in a nutshell).

If the court finds that the minor has a sufficient, stable income source for self-support, and that the other factors are satisfied, the court will consider emancipation. The court doesn't care if you find a way to economize - you can have a roommate to save money. The court's concern, though, is that you are capable of supporting yourself, so a budget that only works if somebody else helps pay the rent is problematic - what if your roommate moves out or stops paying?

You can move out with parental permission, without being emancipated.

Well I know that I can move out if I have parent permission, the whole point of the emancipation for me was be to on a lease, I have a roomate, she just doesn't want to put only her name on the lease. I don't believe that if her name was on the lease as well, that she would leave. I'm just wondering if I have a chance here at it actually happening, or should I not even try for the emancipation?

Basically yes, I can afford rent with a roomate, I have parent permission, I have a job, a car to get to school and work. The only thing I wouldnt really have is being able to afford rent on my own. With everything else i'm set though.

Then whether or not a judge will consent to emancipate you is in question.

I guess all I have to do is try then. I just would rather not waste my time to get shot down, but I guess we'll see what happens. Thank you for answering all my questions, you helped alot.
