Worried About Charges Over a Stolen Tractor
My question involves criminal law for the state of: MARYLAND
I was with some idiot friends of mine one night at a campground drinking and partying no drugs just drinking im 19 and there 20 well i was tired and went to bed early they went out and stole a tractor dropped it off in the woods right near his cousins house. Next morning i woke up and drove home early at about 630 in the morning. i got a call from them saying come pick us up. i turned around and picked them up. their were 3 of us in a single cab silverado
i left my friend drive because i was really tired. i only thought we were going home but they were driving to go pick up the tractor, when they drove by they were like its in the driveway someone must of found it. i was like you idiots dont bring me in this shit. then this idiot started backing up to put it in
MY truck i was about to just jump out the truck and not be involved. BAM here comes 2 cops pulling up to pick it up i guess, we were only about 5 feet in the drive way but once he saw the cops he drove out. 2 min later the cops pull us over and question us and we gave them the alabi which was we were going to my cousins house which was true and got the cousins number and said they were going to call him but never did. they then got our numbers and gave our liscenses back its been about a week since that happened what do you think will happen next you think they are going to forget about it or defiantly try and press charges on us. there were no finger prints or cameras around so there is no other evidance to say they are the ones who stole it
Re: Worried About Charges Over a Stolen Tractor
If I am properly decoding that (please use proper grammar and sentence structure in future posts), you and some friends were out driving in your truck, your friends stole the tractor with your knowledge, and the friends who stole the tractor drove it to a driveway where you were also present (in the truck). Then the police arrived, and you took off in the truck.
If the police can connect your group with the tractor theft, and all that takes is for one of the people involved to tell them what happened, that's a pretty strong circumstantial case against you for being involved in the theft. Perhaps your friends will give a story that (other than letting them use the truck and going along with them) you had nothing to do with it. But if the police believe that you knew they were going to steal a tractor and "let" them use your truck (with you in it) to drive to steal the tractor, even that might not be enough to avoid charges.
Nobody here can predict the future for you. You may want to consult a criminal defense lawyer about this. If you're charged, it would be a very good idea to work with a lawyer.
