Getting Off Sex Offender Registry in Virginia
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia Ten years ago I had sex with a minor. I had no knowledge of her age at that time. I am now a registered sex offender. The girl I had sex with has done this to other guys as well. I was told her juvenille records could not be opened. Also, I was supposed to have my record cleared after 10 years, but 2 years ago the law in Virginia changed and now I am a 'violent' sex offender. I have been in NO trouble with the law in ANY way since my offense. I have tried to better myself since then and now have an associates degree but CANNOT get a job because of my record. The officer that has to come around and check on me told me to get a lawyer and fight for myself. The captain of the police department testified for my character 10 years ago. I have law enforcement on my side but need some advice on how to get started. I have no job therefore no money. So I need all the free help I can get. Thanks

You need to start doing day labor jobs (or anything, really), to get enough money for at least an initial consult.
Or, start calling the local bar association for a pro bono referral, and start calling Legal Aid clinics.

How old was the minor at the time of the crime?
