Expired Unemployment Dates
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
I understand that President Barack Obama has signed legislation approved by the U.S. Congress that will extend the filing deadlines for a month. Which makes Sunday, March 28, 2010 the new deadline for filing a first federal extension of benefits.
I'm a bit confused on the deadline for filing for the first extension. Mainly because from my understanding, the unemployment benefit checks that are received are for 2 week intervals (biweekly), yet towards the end of the term, there is a week where it will only be a 1 weeks worth in a check as a "last check". Is the cutoff for filing the first federal extension the day that the last week is filed? Or is the cutoff the last 2 week continued claim is sent?
In other words, I'm not quite sure what the deadline refers to, since I don't know what is qualified as running out.
My situation is that my last "2 week continued claim" form is on Saturday March 27th, 2010.
BUT
I still have the last final 1 week that I need to fill out that actually needs to be sent out April 3rd.
Does this mean I barely made the cutoff? Or I missed it? PLEASE HELP!
ALSO: Does anyone happen to know when the senates are planning to meet next to see if the extension might be extended to the whole year?
Re: Expired Unemployment Dates
Assuming that by "needs to be sent out April 3rd" you really mean April 4th for the week ending April 3, I believe you miss the deadline by one week under the just signed extension to the filing deadlines. For the extension to Dec 31, the Senate is supposed to take it up next week, But, there is a LOT of stuff in that bill other than unemployment. Anyone's guess is as good or better than mine. FWIW my guess is that they'll let the deadline pass and then make it retroactive.

yeah, I had a feeling that i'd barely miss it. Just my luck. I guess all I can do is wait and hope that the Senate passes the extension for the whole year. Do you happen to know what day of the week of next week they're planning to have the meeting?
