Possession of Marijuana in Utah
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Utah \ PA
Hi
I was given a citation in SLC Utah last week for possession of mj. I live in PA.
After speaking with the SLC prosecutor I have 3 options.
1. Plead Not Guilty. (don't plan on winning that one)
2. Plead guilty. Pay fine, have conviction on my record etc. Not sure about length of time till I can expunge this.
3. Plea by abeyance. Pay fine, do some drug testing thing in PA.
I'm thinking of doing the plea by abeyance, paying the fine, do the drug rehab program, etc. I'm wondering if I should be concerned about losing my PA driving license or any other 'penalties' that I'm not thinking of or wasn't made aware of.
Thx!

I don't know the terms of the plea deal / abeyance, but often that's the best way to avoid a driver's license sanction. If you aren't sure what you're being offered, and can't get that information from the court or prosecutor, consider consulting a local criminal defense lawyer.
