My question involves paternity law for the State of: Maryland
I was born in 1971. My birth mother told me when I was getting my learners that a different mans name would appear as the father because my "supposedly" real father was married at the time and she didn't want him to get into trouble. At birth, my name was her maiden name. she informed me that my dad had to adopt me in order to change my name. The mans name that appeared on my original birth certificate, would he have to sign off in order for my dad to adopt me? I dont' even think the man that was listed as my dad was informed that she was pregnant. I have been told by family NOT MY MOTHER, that the man listed is my biological father and the dad that has been raising me is not. I called the court house and they said I would have to open the adoption case. will all of that information be in the case file and will my mother be notified? I don't want to hurt my dad, i believe he was trapped and lied to as well. I think he believes that I am his daughter. however, I look nothing like the other 3 children. Please help me. I need to resolve this issue to find out my birth father for medical reasons.

Yes, Man A was listed as my father, but man B adopted me. According to my mother, Man B is my father. However, I am finding out that Man A and one other may be my actual father. Man B adopted me to give me his last name. If that is the case, would they have to do DNA test? Would my bilogical father have to give up his rights in order for the adoption to go through? My mother has lied to me all these years, and family is starting to tell me the truth about my real dad. Both men that could be my dad have passed away and I need to know why. Need to find family members. You think you are confused, my head is spinning from all of this. Thanks

You can no longer compel anyone to take a DNA test.
You are too old... by a lot.
I realize you really want to know...but, legally, there is no reason to force someone to admit your paternity...or, in your case, your sisterhood.

If I were to open the adoption case, would my mother be notified that I am wanting it open? I'm just trying to find out who my REAL father is for medical reasons.

I have tried the most direct route, by going to my mother and she continues to lie to my face. My mother has lied to me for so long nothing that comes out of her mouth is the truth. I'm having alot of medical issues, blood pressure, and some other issues. I have a daughter that I need to think about as well. I'm just tired of not knowing.

It was a step-parent adoption...I'm wondering if OP even has grounds to reopen the case, as those differ greatly with the rules and regulations than the other types of adoption. -

If you needed a kidney or something, then you might have an option. High blood pressure is not a compelling reason. -

I'm not manufacturing an issue. It just seems like i'm having alot of medical strange medical issues in the last year. I have lukeaplakia happening on my tongue and the dentist can't figure it out, and neither can my dr. the blood pressure is going up, depression and i just need to know. My dad the one that has raised me, has the start of dementia, along with he had a cerebral hemmorage 7 years ago. Dementia runs rampid in his family. The donor had cancer and who knows what else. I need to find out so that I can let my dr know the medical history. PLUS I have a daughter that needs to know about medical history in our family. So If I can't get the one person who knows to tell me the truth, I need to know which way to go with this. I could have done this years ago, but stopped. Now i see why medical history is so important in a family. I can't even get my mother to tell me his blood type.
