Can a School Public Safety Officer Obtain from a Police Ticket
My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: NJ

I was issued a parking ticket by a local police officer. While it was still sitting on my cars windshield, a school public safety officer also wrote me a ticket (copying down all my information from the ticket left by the officer). I promptly paid the ticket left by the police officer, but neglected to pay the ticket left by the school's public safety officer. The car was not registered with the school's public security, however, the school's public security officers do NOT have direct access to the information that they copied down from the ticket, i.e.: address, city, and name of the car owner, as well as the VIN#.

I neglected to pay the fine since this was the first and only time I had this car on campus. Normally I have another car at school, but my car was in for repairs. After not paying the $75 ticket left by the public safety officer, the school has fined me $800 for not paying the parking ticket+tardiness fees.

Can a public safety officer obtain my information this way? I know they do this to students all the time, but they're telling me that if I do not pay the $800 they will not give me my diploma. Hence, I cannot graduate. While the car was on "school property", aren't there laws and things (methods) that one would have to go through to obtain that kind of information?

    Thanks you!

*Both cars are registered with the DMV

Let's put aside the security officer issue, how does the school justify such an amount to be paid??? DEMAND in writing the legal JUSTIFICATION for it.

I went today to find out and they told me this:

$75 ticket for having... an unregistered car on campus and parking in an unauthorized lot.

The extra $725= Not contesting or paying the fine within the allocated 9 days, $50 surcharge each extra day (this is absolutely ridiculous), and not informing public safety that I was using a different automobile and obtaining a temporary pass.

I'm just really having a tough time stomaching the fact that someone can just copy down my information from a legal document, a ticket issued by a police officer, and then royally **** me over. This just feels like double jeopardy.
