First Offense, Open Container Greenville North Carolina

I was visiting a friend in greenville nc. the driver got a dwi. i had an open container of smirnoff with about a swig gone. police officer took it, dumped it all out, put it back in car in passenger seat floor area and gave me the citation with the open container charge on it.

Was considering going to the DA which is open thursdays and fridays over there but I live in raleigh, and would rather not drive all the way out there when it's not my court date yet, if talking to the DA is going to amount to nothing you know?

What should I do?
