Emancipation

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Texas

I'm 17 and I've been thinking a while about getting emancipated from my parents. I live with my mother and step father and they know about my desire to leave the house. My mother threatened to call the police on any parent who is willing to shelter me so I was wondering about getting legally emancipated. I know in Texas the police cannot force me to go home if my mom tries to but I just don't want my friends parents to get arrested for it. Is there a way that I could leave my house as soon as possible and get emancipated after I leave? Could I say move in my friends house today and worry about the emancipation later? Because I don't want to wait for all the legal crap to be over with. Thanks

First, you were misinformed. The police can indeed force you to go home.

Second, you will not be emancipated unless you are able to prove that you are already living by yourself and supporting yourself completely.

Your best bet is to wait it out - once you turn 18, you can legally choose to live wherever you want.

Thanks for the reply. What if my parents do give me consent to leave and live with a friend and later call the police and tell them they never gave me permission?

Then you'll go back home, really, until you're 18.
