Can a Probation Officer Change the Conditions of Probation
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia

Can a probation officer change the terms of probation?

My son was arrested at school for a fight. Neither boy was hurt, but because it was my son's second fight in 4 years they arrested him. He was 17, but they took him to the adult jail-apparently in GA you are a criminal adult before you can vote about it.

My son was given probation with a stipulation that he have an anger assessment--not treatment, just an assessment. He did so and was found not to have any anger issues.

He does have Asberger's--it is a form of Autism. Now his probation officer says he has to attend an Asberger's support groups as part of his probation.

    Can she do that?

    Yes, she can.

Your son can try convincing the judge to review the probation officer's decision and exclude him from the requirement, but I would not give him great odds on succeeding.
