I'm Almost 17 and I Want to Be Emancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of:North Carolina
I am turning 17 next week. I just moved to NC and found out i could be pregnant. My boyfriend lives in VA, and my parents are keeping me far away from him. I find out monday, and if i am pregnant, can i use that to help get emancipated to live in VA either with him or near him? He can support me and the baby and we would have a place to stay.
Re: Im Almost 17 Wanted to Be Emancipated
Absolutely not. Emancipation not only does not emancipate you, it makes it pretty much certain that you will not be able to meet the requirements for emancipation. No judge is going to emancipate a pregnant teen so that she can live with the guy who impregnated her. Ever. It simply will not happen.
Nor will a judge ever emancipate a teen so that someone else can support her. Unless you, yourself, can completely support yourself, with no help from anyone, emancipation is a no-go.
Re: Im Almost 17 Wanted to Be Emancipated
Getting pregnant is an absolute guarantee that you WON'T be emancipated, even if you accomplish ALL of the other things needed - none of which you hint to have done. Getting pregnant, at your age, without a completed education, a job, or savings, tells the court that you need much MORE supervision, not less. And, the vey basis of emancipation is that you and YOU ALONE are not only able to support YOURSELF (and now your child as well), but have a proven track record of doing so; which you don't. Being supported by someone else is the absolute thing that emancipation must AVOID.
