Fired after 4 days
I accepted an offer with an at-will employer. Quit my job soon after and started working with the new company. 4 days later, I was told by my direct supervisor that " she didn't think i would make a good fit, how surprised she was that I wasn't what she thought I would be, and that it would be best to terminate me now instead of further down the line". She also said that I would have a final interview the next morning with H/R and would get my final paycheck. To add insult to injury, she suggested that I ask for my job back with my old employer. I remained calm despite being completely blindsided by what I just heard. I had no indication that this would happen. Walked back to my desk and tried to log off the computer but found out that the network had already locked me out. I decided not to come in the next day and told H/R how disappointed I was to be terminated after only 4 days. How could somebody make that evaluation after such a short time? I also went on to say that it was unfair to have gone to all that process of quitting my job, start with them and try to get familiarized with the whole process, only to be terminated. H/R said she understood and asked me to give her a call if I felt like talking to her in the future. Was also told that a messenger would come by my apartment that afternoon to drop off my final paycheck.
What are my rights here? Is this even legal or is this just a matter of unethical hiring practices?

At-Will Employment
If you believe you were wrongfully terminated, you may wish to review this article about wrongful termination of at will employment. But one of the perils of accepting an at-will job is that you will be fired for a stupid (but lawful) reason.
