    Food Stamp and Unemployment Theft
I'm in Texas and have been charged with two counts of Felongy Theft; at least that is what is on my bond papers that is what the charges say. Anyway, I am being charged for food stamp theft from2004-2005 because the investigator from human social services says I was really living with my husband and not reporting his income, when the truth of the matter is we were separated and I was living with my mom. What can I do?
Then they are charging me with unemployment theft because one of my ex-girlfriends unbenowst to me used my address to file for benefits and used my address. So they say since my address was where the checks were being sent to I am liable when I know she did this! So I'm being charged with two felony theft charges totaling 23,000. I have contracted a private attorney but to tell you the truth I feel like he is prosecuting me as well. Any suggestions

Find a different attorney if the one you have isn't up to scratch.

You NEED an attorney for this.

Out of interest..why are you being charged for the UI theft? Did you cash the checks?

No I did not cash any of the checks; my attorney says all they have is "Circumstantial" for example they say the checks match my handwriting; meanwhile the ex-friend who DID cash the checks and used my address is an here in this country illegally and is using someone else's name and social security. I have expressed all this to my attorney and I just don't see how I can be charged for someone using my address and forged my signature. In lieu of this; that is why they brought up the food stamp case to try and show that I am incredulous person; mind you I'm abiding citizen who pays taxes everyear and also a public servant. Itwas wondering what the statue of limitations is on the food stamp case since it was between 2004 to 2005. I plan on fighting that till the end... my husband and I were NOT together so refuse to let them dig it to us so easily
