Bad Check Under $150
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida
I was recently arrested for a misdemeanor for a bad check. ($80 to a grocery store) My arraingnment is next week and I have a few questions:
Will I be provided a public defender?
Will I be able to get this charged reduced to a lesser crime?
Is there a big difference between pleading guilty and no contest?
This is my first offense so any information is much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Bad Check Under $150
You can check with the court clerk to learn the process for requesting a court-appointed lawyer, and to get a petition form.
You may be able to get a reduced charge, particularly if you've made good on the check, but I can make no promises. That's up to the prosecutor. I suggest discussing your options with a local criminal defense lawyer.
Both a guilty and "no contest" plea result in conviction.
