If You Pay a Civil Demand Do They Still Notify Cops
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
I have a civil demand for $250 for shoplifting. The cops weren't called but the rent a cop in the store was doing all this typing into some laptop he had.
Has he notified the cops just the same? If they don't call the cops, do they still notify the cops? Is this going to be on my record?

No way to tell if they've notified the cops already.
No way to tell if they will notify the cops.
I'd say your best odds of keeping them from calling the cops is to timely pay the civil demand. But even if you do that, there's no guarantee they won't call the cops.
If they call the cops and you get prosecuted, it will be on your record.

How long did it take you to receive the civil demand?

I got the civil demand right there on the spot. Security guy told me to come to some office where he typed up papers I had to sign or else he was THREATENING to call police if I didn't sign them. Papers say I was "retained" for retail theft and agree to pay (five) 5x the amount of the so called stolen items!!!!!!! in New York.

Three words: Just pay it.
