Petty Theft 18years Old California Sephora
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.

Today I got caught stealing at a Sephora in Orange County. After the worker took down a report, a cop came and issued me a ticket telling me to go to court.

I am 18 years old and my record is clean. I took about 60 dollars worth of items and have no idea how the legal process works. Since I am a college student, I do not have money to afford a lawyer. How should I plead? Is there any way for the misdemeanor to stay off my records? What should I expect the consequences to be?

Please help me out! I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Apply for a courrt appointed attorney. Never enter any plea with out an attorney present.

Expect a civil demand letter and it must be paid as soon as possible.
You should plea not guilty and ask for a public defender. The charge may contain community service, classes, and many more.

Pleading guilty = maximum sentence which includes jail time.
