actually I didn't use MY employee discount as well as the coupons, in fact I never even got my discount card the whole time I worked there (everyones very lazy and I asked a few times with no result so I just said the hell with it)
it was JUST store coupons, as employee's we are NOT allowed to use any coupons at all (I know this NOW) but like I said my manager who has been there 4 years also did not know this and was fired for ringing me out on this purchase.
BTW the coupons saved me a VERY large $26
I would definitely fight it if your employer challenges your U.I. claim. I have worked for some major corporations and their policy pertaining to employee discounts is usually as I described in my previous post. I'm unaware of any employee, non-managerial or managerial, being terminated for the " violation " that you have described. It seems like a very unreasonable policy.
Good luck !
Re: Employer ID Number Required
SChinFChin, I've been in payroll for decades. I know where the UI number is and isn't and I know who in the company has the information. I'm not talking out of my hat here. :wallbang:

Hmm, I'm nonplussed!!
First, I quickly read your posts, and one you may have been writing as I was composing mine, and as I was listening to music, took a while doing it, might have done it at the same time as you 1:00PM vs 1:19PM.
So sorry if I didn't check again, but I have no obligation to.
Second, I went back to take a look at what your wrote and I said nothing about you're being wrong. So what's the beef??
Third, even if I said the same thing, there is no law saying someone can't comment on something you said. What I was saying is the info in our place hanging in the managers office, which anyone can go in a see, unless you were fired, and then you can have a friend go take a look, but also ask your HR person.
Now, saying "see the HR person is about the same thing we both said". No where did I say to PattyPA "you don't know where the UI number is"!!
Fourth, I've hung around a number of boards for many years, and in the worst case I was told by someone under the same circumstances is "that's what I said too", which doesn't even apply here. In those cases, I simply said "I didn't see your answer".
Finally, if you read through the whole thread, you see how ridiculous your outburst is.

Then talk to the payroll person. (BTW, your HR people are idiots-the UI account number is on every notice of UI claim filed which the employer gets always, and on every "Notice of Benefits Paid", which they also get monthly.)
But, as is not all that unusual, ask Payroll. ;):p

I hope I don't get into trouble for posting more information here, but here it goes:
Why don't you do this. Download the CT Employer's UI guide at this link:
http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/uitax/empl-guide.pdf
In this guide, go down to page 25, the section the says:
"UNEMPLOYMENT NOTICE",
and then to the part that talks about forms UC62T/UC 61, which says at the end of the paragragh, "the critical part of YOUR filing of your UI claim is the employer's registration number that appears on the UC-61 form."
According to this, these forms must be furnished to you on separation. Was it??
Now do this:
1> Tell HR that they never gave you the above forms on separation.
2> Chances are, your HR will say they never heard of such a thing, or the above forms, so send them pages of the above guide telling them how it should be handled.
3> If they tell you they don't know what THEIR registration numbers, they should go to their CPA or whomever does their quarterly tax returns for the state, use the number reported on that form.
4> If you still have a problem, and I think you will, call up the CT DOL, and tell them that you never received all of the correct paperwork on separation. Telephone numbers are listed at the end of the guide.
And if they are as stupid as they sound, then they certainly can use someone like PattyPA, with 40 years experience to straighten them out.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, in most states, there should be notices hanging on the walls that informs employees about UI, and in CT, the form UC-8 should be prominently displayed, and can be ordered on-line.
Generally, things are better done in writing, so make copies of Page 25 (or even include the entire packet) above and send your HR the following letter:
>>>>>
Dear Sir or Madam:
I understand in our phone conversations that you may not understand CT employee separation procedures, so I am sending you the relevent pages for review, paying particular attention to Page 25, UNEMPLOYMENT NOTICE.
I was terminated on mm/dd/yy, and I did not receive the termination packet as described by the CT Department of Labor, particularly their form UC-61, that contains the employer registration number. This number can be found on your quarterly CT tax returns, in the posssession of your accounitng department and/or CPA.
Please forward the Separation Package to me as required by CT State law ASAP so I can file my claim.
>>>>>
Of course, you can also file a complaint with CT DOL that they did not follow the proper separation procedures, since if they did, they certainly would know what their UI employee registration number is, which is on the UC-61.
Re: Employer ID Number Required
Hey, don't make me any older than I am. :p
Although I don't disagree with the previous poster, you might get it quicker by just calling payroll. When you can't file your UI claim without the number, getting it is a "time is of the essence" circumstance.

I appreciate your sense of humor.
I have added a few more comments and suggestions on that earlier post of mine. It seems the OP is talking to a bunch of idiots. In these cases, a stern letter (as I added) with all the correct info (meaning I know what I'm talking about) with "cc" to some adults would certainly go faster. Right now, he's going in circles with phone calls.
I've been around accounting, IT, worked with PR and HR personnel in developing payroll interfaces with ADP, Ceridian etc., , and am personally acquainted with many sharp folks in these areas, but also with just as many idiots.
The idiots accounts for all the white hair I got now.
Re: Employer ID Number Required
the way this whole thing went down, im not so sure if they are idiots or scammers because I just spoke to a friend of mine who works there still, he told me I was susposed to be layed off right after inventory (the day I got terminated was a day after inventory) and sure enough he looked at the unprinted schedule for the next 2 weeks and I was NEVER on it to begin with. this was a setup.
