Public Urination
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I recently received a ticket for urinating in public. It is a misdemeanor by local city ordinance, not state law. What kind of penalty am I looking at? I have no criminal history, other than a possession of marijuana charge that was exsponged off my record about 5 years ago. I really haven't been able to find much information on public urination.....any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Public Urination
IF you were in CALifornia.. they would nail you to the wall.
In MICHIGAN, I think they may be more reasonable,
however I would not want that on my record... you should invest in an attorney esp. if it is a misdmeanor.
is there any possibility you just could not wait / nature called & you tried to be discrete????..
there was a 85 yr-old lady that was arrested for this..& citizens were outraged..as she was old & could not help it.
If you were a sloppy drunk & not discrete...I would not have sympathy

Re: Public Urination
I had stopped to pick-up some late night carryout about 5 miles from my house, when all of sudden I had to pee soooooo bad. I drove around to the back of a dumpster and did the deed only to walk back out and find a cop car sitting and waiting for me. I was shocked to say the least. I had been drinking, and I was actually breathalyzed by the police but I was under the legal limit. Obviously I'm pretty mad for getting myself into this situation but I didn't think urinating on a dumpster was this big of a deal.....fricon America, it's ok for dogs and cats and squirrels to piss all over the place.......god I was just fertilizing the grass.....

Re: Public Urination
What's the city and ordinance number? Your defense may lie in the language of the ordinance.

Re: Public Urination
That is a violation of local ordinance most likely, not a crime.

Re: Public Urination
Given that we were told it's an ordinance violation, it's a safe bet that's the case. Given that we were told it's a misdemeanor charge, there's no question that it is a criminal charge.

Re: Public Urination
Maybe if you plead not guitly it can be reduced to a violation.
