Convicted of Assault on a Female, Wayne Co. North Carolina
i was convicted of assault on a female for biting my girlfriends hand when she shoved it in my mouth due to my bantering and so belittlement.

i was ordered to take a relationship building "class" of 26 weeks and supervised probation until the classes are completed.

my question, before the conviction i got 5 handgun purchase permits in my county. Will these still be valid and will i be able to buy a handgun when the probation period is over and the class meetings are satisfied?

The GS reads a list of disqualifying crimes which do not apply to me, then says any crime of violene in Chapter 14 article 8 and i DO NOT see anything in that chapter and article about domestic violence, i may be overlooking.

I just want a second professional opinion.

    Thanks for any information.

I am in North Carolina if anyone needs that info to help in replying.

Edited to add: before i got the permits approved by the sheriff of my county, i had been convicted of simple assault which obviously did not have any negative bearing on the decision of my handgun purchase permit approval.

You might be out of luck,in a lot of states if you have a conviction for dv you can't have a gun. Is there a number or something u can call.

this is what i was thinking, up until i posted on another forum as well, and found out that a disqualifying factor is "domestic violence convictions"...i was charged and convicted with simple assault on a female...and since we were not living together...doesnt seem to be a domestic violence charge
