Getting a Refund of a Credit Card Overpayment
My question involves a banking matter in the State of: Idaho

I made an overpayment to wells fargo Credit card long time ago(alomst 2 yrs) and never used that card since then hoping that they will send me the refund in check. Now that I log in to see my online statement, it shows Zero credit balance on my account.

Which means Bank has taken my overpayment and made it zero balance. I can still see credit balance in my online statement though the current balance on the account is Zero. Is that something bank can do? What can I do at this situation? Do they pay late fees to costumer as well like they charge us!

    Hoping for solution tips!!

    Thanking you in Advance

What did they say when you called them about the overpayment?

Many state have requirements that credit balances be turned over to the state, as unclaimed property after a certain period of time, if not claimed.

In fact, a while back, I received such a letter from my bank credit card dept., saying that if I don't request a refund, that is what will happen. You'll still get your money, but at that point, you'll have to file a claim with the state.

You might have just missed the notice.

In fact, the legal section of newpapers here are filled with notices of unclaimed property. One thing I don't understand is why they just didn't just send me a check.

I suspect the state just needed the money, and hope people like you just forgot about it. As was suggested, check and see with the bank first.

If it was turned over to the state as unclaimed property, you may be able to find out here.
