Theft Off a Person I Know
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
Hello and thank you for taking the time to look at my question.
It all begins with Theft from a person I know, apparently what happened specifically was that I was in a card shop with many players. There was a Tournament going on and what not, I was playing someone I actually know, they know my name have my number, etc. Anyway after we were done, he packed his belongings and left. In front of me was a box, I had no idea who's was it until I looked inside. I asked around and no one knew and after a while I eventually found out who's it was right after this guy I know asked the entire store if anyone saw it and made a big scene. I was going to return it but I just got nervous and didn't do it. Anyway I was going to return it to him the sameday but didn't do anything about it until night time, I told him I was going to return it then I told him I didn't have it. Regardless, I called to return it but by the time I did it was too late, he had already pressed charges the same day.
In the end, the police told me to return the item at the station directly to the person and he would drop charges. I returned the item the way it was and charges were droppped. Now I have Person B who confronted me saying he was going to press charges on me for doing such a thing. He also claimed that the item was partially his, with that being said he wants to press charges now.
The victim had originally stated that the item was his but about 3 or 4 cards were someone elses. THAT person was there at the police station and both of them decided to drop charges. Can this Person B really Press Charges again after the problem has been resolved and the original victim's dropped the charges that same day? I never knew this other person was involved in the problem. Thanks for the help guys.
Re: Theft Off a Person I Know
How long ago did you commit this theft? Why didn't "Person B" come forward at the time? Is "Person B" alleging anything else, such as that you didn't return all of the contents of the box? Why is "Person B" approaching you about this rather than simply going to the police - is he trying to get something from you?
