Re: Legally Domicile Adult
That depends on your insurer's policies and procedures.
Contact your plan's administrator.
Re: Legally Domicile Adult
Almost certainly not.
It will, as Missy says, depend on your health insurance policy, but I have been administrating group health insurance policies for 30 years and I have never yet seen one where a 37 year old adult child could be covered on an employee's plan unless the child is either physically or mentally disabled to the point where s/he is incapable of self-care. This is the case even if she is living with you.
Check with your HR department but do not be surprised if the answer is no.
Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
Some states such as New Jersey and New York are requiring group policies to offer coverage to single adult children up to a certain age. But generally that age is 29 or 30 unless the child is incapable of self support. Hopefully the insurance reform making its way through Congress will do something about the problem so that the United States joins the rest of the civilized world in offering universal coverage. The only problem is I see that many countries that have universal coverage ONLY provide coverage while in that country and not when traveling abroad. I for example have coverage through my employer and it is worldwide.
Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
This is what I do for a living. There is as yet no state that requires a group health plan to cover a 37 year old "child" as a dependent unless that "child" is incapable of self care.

Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
thanks for everyone's response. today i checked with my hr department and found that yes i can put my daughter on my health coverage if she is dependent on me. she has lost her job and i do pay most of the expenses in the home. she is considered a legally domiciled adult as long as she has been and is living in my houme.
thanks again

Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
Great. I did find this info in a reference of mine:
Who qualifies for group health insurance coverage as a Legally Domiciled Adult?
A Legally Domiciled Adult is an individual over 18 who has for at least 6 months lived in the same principal residence with the employee and remains a member of the employee's household throughout the coverage period; and who either
(Category A) has a close personal relationship with the employee (not a casual roommate or tenant), shares basic living expenses and is financially interdependent with the employee, is neither legally married to anyone else nor legally related to the employee by blood in a way that would prohibit marriage, and is neither receiving benefits from an employer nor eligible for any group coverage, or
(Category B) is the employee's blood relative who meets the definition of his or her tax dependent as defined by Section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code during the coverage period and is neither receiving benefits from an employer nor eligible for any group coverage.
Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
what confused me and still does is the part that says "not related to the employee by blood in a way that would prohibit marriage"

Re: Putting an Adult Child on My Health Insurance
Category A above is talking about non-related persons (they're not blood relatives) - ie a couple living together but not married.
