Right Turn on Red Light, Camera Flashes
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I was approaching an intersection right after filing up gas and was driving at around 25 MPH. The lights turned red and I began slowing down. I had my right turn signal on and I was at a complete abrupt stop, with my front tires crossing the 'fat white' line by less than 2 feet. During this time I see the camera lights flash, near the right corner facing cars approaching from my direction. There were several other cars in all directions at the intersection.

While, I was wondering what was happening, I also see some other lights flash (not the one that flashed before).

I wanted to know if I had violated any laws? There were no crosswalk lines, but I had not crossed it, as the 'fat white' line was earlier than the actual crosswalk. I also did not make the right turn when the lights were red. I made it only when it was green.

Is there a way for me to check, If I actually got a ticket, before it arrives in mail? I will be moving soon to another city.

Thank you so much for your time.

The "fat white line" is more commonly referred to as the "limit line" and its not whether your tires had passed it, it is whether your front bumper went over it before your made a full stop.

California Vehicle Code Section 21453. (a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subdivision (b).

No where/way to check... Just make sure you file a change of address with the DMV and notify the USPS of a forwarding address as soon as you move.

Thank you so much for the info. Based on the information provided, is this a sure ticket, or there is a chance that it is waived.

Also, what is an average fine for such a violation.

Thanks once again for the information.

I can't answer that question as it depends on a number of different factors... The quality of the picture(s), whether it was your vehicle (or someone else's) that activated the camera, whether you are the registered owner... etc. If and when you receive the citation, come back with more info and more questions and we'll go from there.

    You're looking at approximately $436.
