Petit Larceny in New York
Okay so im 18 yrs old, and i live in the suburbs in NY state. In November 2009 a week before my 18th birthday i was arrested at the target store i worked at for pettit larceny. I was a cashier and i occasionally lowered prices of items for my friends, non of the items were for myself. The target corporation lost 300 dollars because of my actions. I was arrested and charged with pettit larceny. My question is what should i expect to happen at the trial, considering i was 17 when I was charged, its my first offense, and I am willing to pay back the target corporation.
Also i applied for a job at Homedepot and i got the job but they are going to do a backround check on me, will that charge prevent me from getting the job?
Oh also i forgot to mention my trial isnt until january so Ive only been charged, not convicted
Re: Petit Larceny in New York
Stores don't like to hire people with a history of stealing from their employers. That shouldn't come as a surprise.
If this is your first offense, talk to your lawyer about whether you might qualify for a deferral or diversion program, such that you can avoid a criminal conviction.
Re: Petit Larceny in New York
hmm well the position I applied for was lot attendant so basically im just doing carts and mopping the place. Technically the charge was under theft but i was really doing unauthorized discounts.
And well my family cant afford a lawyer, but is there anyway i can look into that stuff myself? I will most probably be defending myself because I am going to plead guilty
