I Got Death Threats Via Text Messages
My question involves criminal law for the state of: VA

Basically the texts are from the wife of a man I had an affair with. The affair ended but she won't leave me alone.

For the last six months I have been getting horrible emails and texts but have mostly ignored them because I knew she was angry. I felt like I deserved the harassment. I usually get at least a message a week calling me a nasty whore and such.

But now she has texted me that she was going to "cut me ear to ear", "put me in the ground", and also sent a text saying that she "absolutely is threatening my life".

Over the past six months I have asked her to stop and she has not. I have not engaged the texts & emails but I have responded to a few. I have not made any threats to her.

What can I do? Is it illegal to threaten one's life? I called my phone carrier and they said that texts could be subpenia (?) if I go to court.

I just want her to leave me alone!

    Any info is greatly appreciated,

    Christina

ETA: I have blocked her from both my emails but hate to change my phone number as I have had it for years.

If you believe she is genuinely threatening your life, why are you posting here instead of reporting the threat to the police?

You are right, I will go to the police.

I just was not sure if they (police, judges) take texted threats seriously. I certainly do.

Well, I did go to the police and find she was arrested.

Court followed leading to her having to stay away from me in any and all ways and 1 year probation with 10 days of jail if she contacts me.

Thanks for the kick in a_$.
