    Termination of Father's Parental Rights
I have recently found out the my soon to be ex husband intends to sign over his parental rights to not only our unborn child(due in just a few weeks) but also his two year old daughter from a previous relationship. I'm positive that it's just to aviod child support payments for both the children. Can he do this in the state of CA..I had heard that basically he could only do this IF there was someone else willing to adopt. Not the case here. Any info on this helpful

He plans to sign over his parental rights to... whom?

It sounds like a goofy plan to avoid paying child support, not something that he has checked out with a lawyer.

sign over, sign away...it DOES sound like that's the only reason he wants to do it. My question is CAN he do it at all?? I don't think he can, but until I can contact our local family law facilitator (or the local DA of Child Support) I was just wondering if anyone knew any info on this...

It could be done, say, within the context of step-parent adoption. As a unilateral move to avoid child support though, it sounds like he's dreaming.

I agree that he's dreaming. If that were possible, how many children would be without child support right now? My ex threatened the same thing, but never acted on it. Where do these guys come from??
