Need some help with my situation. In the U.S. for 17/18years
I am from Colombia, South America. I came to the U.S. the age of 5 with on a J2 Visa. My dad got his masters and PhD in the u.s with a J1. I went to elementry, and highschool here. When I turned 18 I went back to Colombia because I was 18, and became Independent, I then got my F1 Visa to study here in the us with sport and academic scholarship in 2001. I went to school from 2001 to 2003 but because I of family and financial ties. It was really difficult to return to school. I tried to explain my situation to my advisors and they told to contact INS and what to do. I did, I really never knew how to go about things with my situation, its now 2006 I am 23 years old and my visa I believe is about to expire. I have be have been in the US for about just 18 years. What can I do with my situation. My professors and friends say I can I apply for Citizenship but I really just dont know how the process works or where to go to find help with my situation. If you can give some advise or some resources on what I can do, it would be greatly appreciated...Thank you....

You need to figure out your current immigration status, for starters.

Are you presently enrolled in school? Have you overstayed your visa, or is your visa still current? Is your I-94 still current?
