Changing Name on Title

My question pertains to the state of Virginia

My condo title is under my married name. I recently got married and I wanted to change my name and add my husband. How do I go about doing this? Would I need to see a real estate lawyer to do this process?

I also read that some counties don't require you to change your name on a deed. Is that true?

I don't know of any county that requires you to change the name on your deed when you get married.

If you have a mortgage, you should check your mortgage contract before adding somebody to the deed.

A real estate lawyer could easily draft a deed conveying the property from you (under your old name) to you and your husband (under your married name).
