Getting Child Support when Father is on SSI
This is reguarding a Child Supoort case in Ohio.

I recently, had my CS case reopen to see if my son father would be order to help with medical insurance since i have to pay more to have my son on my policy. But, unfortually. the court system ended his CS and I was court order to carry all medical insurance(health, dental, and vision). Having medical insurance order on me no big deal and I would have carried it anyways. But I was shocked that they discontinue my CS. Since recent my sons father started recieveing SSI not SSD. I feel he wasn't on SSI when our son was born that he should have to pay something to him. This is suppost to be fifty, fifty according to the court system. I don't see it that way; like they are punishing me for being a responsible parent. Because if I happen to lose my job or my employer discontinue my healthcare insurance. I would be held on contempt of court and I can have legal actions taken against me.

What steps or help can I get to get my child support back? When he got general relief of $115. I was order $50 but now he gets over $600 a month, my son gets nothing. Any advice would be helpful.

SSI cannot be used for CS nor can it be garnished. That is the reason that the CS order was canceled.

It doesn't matter when he became disabled, all the court uses is the present circumstances.
Since ex is now legally disabled and the CS order has been cancled, there's nothing you can do unless the SSA later determines that he is no longer disabled (which very seldom happens).

I know it's frustrating, but you'll have to support your child without ex's financial help.

Also, if you were to lose your job or your employer were to cancel your insurance, you wouldn't be held in contempt.
