Should I Get Married to An Illegal Immigrant?
My boyfriend and I have been dating since September 2005 and I love him very much and he loves me very much. I was worried that he wanted to go out with me to get a green card, but he is a wonderful person just like all the other people on here say the same about the ones they love.
My question is should we get married. I don't like sneaking around because he's illegal and I want to get married like anyone else, a church with my family and his family, but being illegal doesn't make that possible.
We are planning on going to get married this Friday by the court and then he is applying for his work permit and other papers (i.e. social security card) through someone. He wants to get a better job. He has a college degree and feels bad when we are short on money. He wants to be able to help more with the finances, etc.
By the way. there is a website that is really good...it's probably the best on immigration law...google "Siskind Susser Law Firm".
Should we really get married? I feel nervous about the consequences.

Did he enter the U.S. legally?
Howdy. My friend actually did enter the us legally. What significance does that have if we were to get married now. He's been illegal for over two years.
Thanks

If he entered the U.S. legally, he may be able to adjust his status after marriage and regain legal status. But if he leaves, he may be subject to a lengthy period of exclusion for his period of unlawful presence in the U.S.
If he didn't enter legally, he can't adjust his status (as he had no status in the first place).

So, I was wrong, he did not enter legally. He has NO status to speak of. I want him to go back to his country so I can apply for a fiancee visa, but he has paid taxes, as been issued a TIN/SSN for work, has used his name on all his bills, leases, etc. How does that effect him coming back? Can he come back? Is he "in the system" already and they just have too much to deal with than attempt to deport known illegals who aren't violent, drug-dealers or rapists?
We are going to an attorney today, but I fear she'll tell us something wrong. I am an attorney, very new, and navigating Immigration law is difficult. I just need some guidance on what to expect. I refuse to go into a marriage where I have to look over my shoulder everyday hoping he's not deported.
thanks
