Emancipation
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Kentucky.
I am a 16 year old female who got forced to move with my father(which isnt my biological father) and i didnt want to move up here. He lives in Pennsylania and my mom lives in Kentucky. I told my mom i didnt want to move up here with him becuase i got molested by a family friend ( i went through the court system) and i dont feel comfortable up here with an old man. But my mom is an alcholic and when i come home she is drunk and i have to be her mother at that time. Can I be emancipated? i am unappy with my life and i cant stand it? what do i do?:wallbang:

Re: Emancipation
Nothing you have posted suggests that you are a candidate for emancipation. Being unhappy at home is not a valid reason.
Contrary to what far, far too many kids believe, emancipation is not granted on the basis of a bad home life or being unhappy or even being abused. Emancipation is granted on the basis of your having a proven record of self-support.

Re: Emancipation
But I had to take care of my mother when she was drunk. I was the mother and everytime i came home she was drunk and i had to baby her like she was my own kid. Im not going to live with her like that and I am living with a guy whos not even my real dad. I feel like i have been neglected. What should i do then?

Re: Emancipation
Understand that life isn't fair and get yourself a good support system, talk to the guidance office at school if you feel therapy would be beneficial to you and if you're willing to get some rational emotional to deal with the situation at hand. But no matter how bad or unfair the living situation, it has almost NOTHING to do with whether or not you'd even be considered for emancipation. When your own self-generated income has been able to cover ALL of your own expenses for some period of time, while still maintaining above average grades in school, then and only then would you even have the possibility of gaining emancipation.
It's not a way out of a bad situation; it's a way for minors who have already shown above average abilities to come out on top in bad situations to get some aid from the courts AFTER they've shown that the emancipation would be necesary for them to CONTINUE to be self supporting.
