Repo Man Using My Repossessed Vehicle on Other Repo Jobs
My question involves a repossession of a vehicle in the State of Illinois. My vehicle (2008 Toyota 4X4 Tacoma) was repossessed and the title to the vehicle is still in my name and has not been switched to creditor yet. There is presently no insurance on the vehicle. When it was repossessed, I didn't think to remove the plates. I just found out that the repo company is driving my vehicle while repossessing other vehicles. I thought the vehicle was to be impounded so that no damage would be done to it before being sold. What is my recourse and is this legal for them to do?
Re: Repo Man Using My Repossessed Vehicle on Other Repo Jobs
If the vehicle is still in your name, CALL THE POLICE and REPORT the vehicle STOLEN. That will compel the repo man to explain it to the police and fix the problem. You certainly did not give the repo man permission to drive your car around.
This is also important for you to protect yourself if the vehicle gets tickets or is involved in an accident, especially a hit and run, where anyone could be driving the car.

I suggest contacting your lender about it. I doubt that they would appreciate that use of their collateral.
