Giving Up Rights

My question involves paternity law for the State of: Tennessee

I want to know how I could give up my rights or voluntary relinquishment my rights to my new born child. 1st let me say that this was a short affair 1 1/2 mths maybe. I didnt want the child she knew it, I even offer to pay for abortions but she wanted the child. I told her I couldnt be a part of its life and she even wanted me to sign my rights over when it was born didnt put me on birth certifi. Well next thing I know hit with a paternity test comes back 99.6%. I got a lawyer but she is telling me I cant give up my rights unless the girl gets married and hubby wants to take over rights. Is this true? I want to give up my rights even it I still half to pay child support. What can my lawyer do to make this happen?

you cannot simply relinquish your parental rights. You do not have to utilize your parental rights but you can't just give them up either. States generally will not bastardize a child.

and yes, you will pay child support.

Did you think she was lying to you when she told you that you couldn't just give up your rights?

No I didnt think she was lying. I have read mix post about this, Some people say yes you can give up your rights if mother wants you to give them up, other have said no, Its not about child support, I dont care if I pay child support, I just dont want nothing to do with the kid period. Ill pay my dues but as far being in the childs life it's not going to happen. You all can hate me all you want, But men should have rights to about wanting a kid or not. Women sure can put them up for adoption if they dont decide they dont want to keep the child, then turn around lie about knowing the father.

They already do have those rights. Actually, men have 3 rights:

1. Condom

2. Abstaining

3. Vasectomy

Just as women have

Birth Control

Abstaining

Tubes being tied

But that still doesnt keep them out adoption centers when they dont want it. or getting abortion now does it. Bottom line is women have the right to keep it or give it up. Men dont get that option. Women are just as responsible for the child as men are. It takes two to make it. Only diffrents is one get a choice to keep or adopt/abort/ other just get shafted by a corrupted justice system.

Lets not forget hysterectomy for the women also, thats 4 way for woman not to have a child 1 up on mans options. Why are we having this discussion I came here for help on giving up rights not getting flame cause I dont want the child in my life.

Your mistake is thinking that the opinions of strangers on the internet mean more than your attorney's years of education, licensing, and practice.

When in doubt? Listen to the professional.

Even if the mother agrees to let you give up your rights, the courts will not allow it. You can choose to be in your child's life or not, but the court will expect you to support that child regardless.

You may want to rethink the situation though. You may not want to have anything to do with the mother, but that child did nothing wrong. Not every child is planned, but they are all gifts that should be cherished.

they will not force you to exercise your rights, period.

if you are willing to pay child support, as you should be, simply attend any court necessary, accept the placement of CS, make your payments and ignore the child. Simple as that. You do not have to have anything to do with the child, period, other than CS.

I would make a suggestion to you though; if you start down this road, do not waiver from your course. If you decide later on that you want to be a father, it is hard on the child. Accepting that a person bio-father was never there is hard enough but if/when dad later changes his mind and then decides he want to be daddy, a child is injured again.

I just went through the scenario with Bio-Dad. Told the judge he wanted no contact now or in the future. The judge frowned on that. Then he made him pay dearly. Bio Dad said he would be glad to pay CS, haven't seen a dime yet. I don't know about your child's mother, but I am personally going to spend every dime I have to make sure my child gets CS. I will have no problem putting him in jail. I agree with jk, if your out, then stay out forever.
