Adoption of an Adult Child
My question involves adoption law for the State of: Texas
My husband and I have been married for 13 years and he has raised my daughter since she was 5. My ex-husband has not once been in contact with her in all these years. We tried several times to get him to not contest an adoption when she was little, but he said he would not cooperate.
She is 18 now and she and my husband want to get the adoption going. We live in Brazoria County Texas. I have the filing fee costs and where to go to file the court documents and I have read the Texas statute on adult adoptions. My only obstacle is how to get the correct paperwork. I need a petition, consent form etc. Can you assist me on where / how to get these papers? I am not a lawyer, I did work for lawyers years ago and we did go see a lawyer recently, I just do not want to pay 2500.00 for something that seems so very simple.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, TXmom09
