    Emancipation Laws for Tennessee
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Tennessee

I am seventeen years old and living in the state of TN. My parents are divorced and have split custody. Every other week I have to live at a different house and it gets very stressful. My mom called to talk to my boss today because her and I got into an argument about how I wanted to move out. She told my boss that i cannot continue to work there. I do not believe that this is a ligitamate reason to have to quit my job against my will. I have my own car that I paid for and support myself on my own for the most part, aside from housing, etc. I have good grades and have never been in any trouble. My parents refuse to take each other to court and if there is something that I need money for, they always refuse to speak to each other. Lately, I have just decided to pay for everything myself to avoid having them fight. My mom and stepdad are both very emotionally abusive, and my mom never seems to be able to make a decision that isn't what her husband wants. If anyone has any advice or information, I would greatly appreciate it.

There is no emancipation statute in Tennessee. That means that you cannot be emancipated, period.

At 17, your mother does not have to have what you consider a good reason to make you quit your job. If she says quit, you quit. Until your 18th birthday, you are under the care and control of your parents and you do what they say.

When you are 18, you can live where you want, work at whatever job you want, and do what you like. While you are still a minor, what they say goes, and they have no legal obligation to defend their decisions to you.

I'm sorry to say that you are wrong. Just because there are no emancipation statute in the state of tn doesn't mean it wont happen at all, it mean that each case is done by each case. Yes, it is uncommon for a teenager to be emancipated, but it can happen. Even in the state of tn.

And there is nothing whatsoever in this poster's story to suggest that even on a case by case basis, she would be eligible for emancipation.

The only other way would be for the teen to get an attorney and petition the court.

There, she would have to convince a judge that not only are her parents that are caring, feeding and housing her the wrong place for her to be but also that she has the financial ability to support herself.

The legal fees alone in something like this would put it outside of most children unless the op is a rock star or has invented the internet.
