Re: Starting a Civil Lawsuit
Have you checked with other attorneys? Just because one is unreasonable doesn't mean that all are.
You might also check with Legal Aid in your area.

question involves court procedures for the state of: kentucky.
man owes me 4300.00 for a promisorry note. Was going to go to small claims court but here in kentucky there is a 1500.00 limit. Was told I could sue him by going to civil court where the limit is 4000.00.Can someone help with how to get started with this.Went to a lawyer but they wanted 500.00 retainer plus 1/3 judgement.on a fixed income so trying to do it ourselves.thanks for any help
Filing a suit on your own is very complex. In the upper court he would be entitled to a jury, but not in small claims, one must not only know how to form and caption a complaint, but respond to Motions, if filed, impanel a jury if he requests one, etc.
I have filed suits on my own outside small claims, but I don't even know how to impanel a jury without some consultation.
Go over it in your head and see if you will just settle for the 1,500.00 if it is a sure bet.
