Social Security Disability Payments to Children
I have been receiving disability benifits for myself for six years. In addition, I receive monthly benifits for each one of my children that is intrusted to me. I have been so scared over the years to spend all the money, so I have built up quite a savings account for the three kids, thinking I should save it for college to show social security that I'm not just spending there money. What happens to this money when my kids turn 18?
Do they ask for it back? If so should I spend it on these kids now?
Re: Social Security Disability Payments to Children
Assuming these are auxiliary benefits resulting from your disability, it's my understanding that they're to be used for the benefit of the children (i.e., their support). The money can still be used for their benefit (e.g., college tuition) or turned over to them. If you want specifics based upon the type of benefits at issue and the facts of your case, ask a Social Security case worker.

I don't see where they would ask for the ss benefits back that were received for the children. Your saving the money for college should be ok. However, as Mr. Knowitall suggested, you might contact your local SS office & ask them any questions you might have.
